Break free from the city:
one weekend of a Parisian!
In spring 2019 we went on one of our many trips to France but with an offbeat route. Like the Parisians, we are trying to escape the city hustle at the retreat hotel Domaine de la Bretesche. The art of living is one of the distinctive characteristics of the French; see how we did it!
The journey starts in the heart of the capital of France. Our hotel Plaza Athénée 5* is regarded as a symbol of the traditional Parisian style. The hotel boasts the likes of Grace Kelly, Rudolf Valentino and Jacqueline Kennedy as former guests. Located near the Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower, it allows its guests to plunge into the social life of Paris.
The hotel Plaza Athénée offers 154 rooms, including 54 suites, 3 restaurants, 2 cafes, bar, wine cellar, business center and 4 conference rooms (up to 200 people).
The gourmet cuisine of the hotel Plaza Athénée deserves a separate conversation. Its eponymous restaurant has been awarded three Michelin stars! The unique dishes of the maître of the culinary arts Alain Ducasse are so famed and popular that the tables are booked months in advance.
Our team visits the old Hôtel d'Evreux palace in the Place Vendôme that can host events for all tastes. The windows overlook the famous Vendôme column, and the interiors are decorated in the style of the Second Empire – it is not surprising that this palace served as the residence of several aristocratic families!
The cultural life of Paris is diverse and keeps up with the times. In the center of digital art "Workshop of Light" (Atelier des Lumières) we meet the Van Gogh paintings.
How can you rediscover Paris? On motorcycles – such an opportunity is provided by Paris Retro Tour.
We end a day in Paris with a dinner at the legendary Café de la Paix – in different time periods, the visitors to this place were the Prince of Wells, Emile Zola, Guy de Maupassant. For dessert we have a performance in the cabaret Lido de Paris, well-known for its exotic shows.

It is time to leave Paris and spend a weekend in Brittany in a romantic golf hotel Domaine de la Bretesche & SPA 5*, which is located not far from the famous Atlantic beaches of the resort La Baule in the middle of the 200-hectares park. The heart of the manor is an ancient 15th century castle with rooftop chimneys and turrets rushing into the misty sky of South Brittany. The motto of this hotel steeped in noble past is "the art of living in the French manner".
The estate Domaine de la Bretesche takes pride in its 9 and 18-holes emerald golf courses – the English players from the neighboring island, who generally don't acknowledge any golf courses other than their own, often sail in here.
Two other fascinating features of the hotel are the gourmet restaurant Le Montaigu, that offers its guests a seasonal menu with a variety of seafood dishes, game and vegetables, complemented by aged wines, and the spa-center La Cour Carré, with a range of wellness programs and spa services.
The hotel room inventory: 31 rooms, including 1 suite, as well as 5 golf-cottages. Domaine de la Bretesche offers 7 fully equipped rooms with maximum capacity up to 150 people for various events.
Domaine de la Bretesche has a tennis court and two heated swimming pools (outdoor and indoor) and a helicopter pad. A lot of activities are available for the guests: culinary master classes, courses on local wines and various sorts of apple cider tastings, cycling, hiking and horse riding.
The hotel welcomes us with a cocktail and invites to dinner. The next day, we will be all about golf, spa treatments and spring walks on the grounds of this amazing estate!
